Kerala Fibre Optic Network (K-FON) is the state’s flagship project to provide high-speed internet as a basic right. As of 2026, the project has significantly expanded its reach to BPL families and government offices.
Eligibility Criteria
K-FON offers two types of connections: Free (for BPL households) and Paid (for the general public/commercial use).
1. For Free BPL Connections
Economic Status: The primary criteria is being in the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
Ration Card: You must hold a valid BPL (Pink or Yellow) ration card.
Location: Connectivity depends on whether K-FON infrastructure (cables and local access points) has reached your specific area. Priority is often given to tribal settlements and remote regions.
Documentation: Usually requires a copy of the ration card and a valid ID (Aadhar).
2. For Paid/Commercial Connections
Any resident or business in Kerala can apply for a paid connection wherever the network is active.
