In a chilling incident in Nedumkandam, Idukki, a 43-year-old man named Saji was arrested for the brutal double murder of his 70-year-old mother, Marykutty, and his 48-year-old brother, Raji. The tragedy was fueled by a long-standing property dispute and Saji’s deep-seated resentment over his brother’s constant taunts regarding his legitimacy and parentage. After committing the murders, Saji callously hid the bodies under a bed for a night before burying them in a pit in the courtyard, where they remained undiscovered for 17 days while he continued his daily routine and even planned his upcoming marriage. The crime came to light only after his sister grew suspicious of her mother and brother’s sudden disappearance, leading the police to exhume the bodies and eventually capture Saji after he attempted to hide in the nearby forest.
