The Kerala state government is set to launch a revamped health insurance scheme, expected to open for registration in May after the new government takes office, offering coverage ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh per family. This new initiative aims to prioritize those who do not currently possess a health insurance card, regardless of whether they hold an APL or BPL ration card, merging existing state programs like the Karunya Health Security Scheme (KASP) with the central government’s Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY). The scheme will be accessible across government hospitals and select private hospitals for various surgeries and treatments, providing a significant financial safety net that eliminates the need for private insurance. Prospective applicants are advised to ensure their Aadhaar card details, including name, mobile number, and biometrics, are fully updated, as Aadhaar will serve as the primary criterion for the registration process that will be formally announced following the government’s formation.
