Kerala Rain Alert: Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued for Heavy Rains

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather warning for Kerala, predicting heavy rainfall and severe lightning across the state over the next three days. While the summer showers have provided much-needed relief from the scorching heat and eased power consumption pressures for KSEB, authorities are urging high caution due to the risk of “flash floods” and dangerous lightning strikes, which have already caused casualties. Orange alerts have been declared for two districts, while yellow alerts cover seven others, with predicted rainfall reaching up to 115.5 mm in 24 hours. Disaster management officials have released a comprehensive list of safety protocols, advising the public to stay indoors, disconnect electrical appliances, and avoid open spaces or water bodies during thunderstorms. With similar extreme weather recently causing devastation in Bengaluru and Delhi, residents in hilly and coastal areas of Kerala are specifically warned to avoid night travel and remain vigilant against sudden weather shifts.
