Kerala Weather Update: Heavy Summer Rains and Yellow Alerts Issued

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding the intensification and spread of summer rains across various districts in Kerala. A yellow alert has been declared for seven districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam, as heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is expected. The Disaster Management Authority has advised the public to remain vigilant against lightning and strong winds reaching up to 50 km/h, particularly for those residing in hilly and coastal regions. While the rainfall has provided some relief from the intense heat in the southern regions, northern districts like Palakkad and Kozhikode continue to experience high temperatures. Authorities have cautioned about potential waterlogging in urban areas and advised residents in low-lying regions to take necessary precautions as the rainy spell is expected to continue through early May.
