This report details significant changes to LPG gas cylinder booking and pricing regulations in India effective May 1st. Due to global energy market instability, oil companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas have introduced stricter timelines between bookings: urban customers must now wait 25 days, while rural customers must wait 45 days. To prevent black marketing and ensure transparency, a Delivery Authentication Code (DAC) system is now mandatory, requiring customers to provide an OTP received on their registered mobile number to collect their cylinder. Additionally, the government is enforcing Aadhaar-based eKYC for subsidy beneficiaries and actively pushing for a transition from LPG to Piped Natural Gas (PNG). Notably, in areas where PNG infrastructure is available, households that fail to switch within three months risk having their LPG supply terminated, as the government aims to expand the PNG network significantly by 2026.
