Initial reports suggested that a Mumbai family of four died from food poisoning after consuming watermelon, causing widespread panic and a massive slump in watermelon sales. However, forensic investigations have now clarified that the fruit was not the culprit. Preliminary forensic results revealed that the internal organs of the deceased had turned green—a sign of severe poisoning that typically does not occur from standard food poisoning. Additionally, traces of morphine were found in the father’s body, adding a layer of mystery to the case. While the actual toxin or motive behind the deaths is still being investigated, officials emphasize that there is no direct link to the watermelon consumed, although they advise general caution regarding chemical dyes and surface bacteria on unwashed fruits.
