New KSEB Restrictions and Peak Hour Guidelines

Amidst a record-breaking heatwave in Kerala, KSEB has issued an urgent warning and implemented controlled power restrictions to prevent grid failure and ensure a steady supply. The state’s electricity consumption has hit an all-time high, prompting the board to schedule brief power outages of 15 to 30 minutes in various regions, particularly during peak hours from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. Consumers will receive advance notice of these disruptions via SMS. To mitigate the crisis, KSEB advises the public to avoid using high-power appliances such as pump sets, induction stoves, and water heaters during these hours, and to set air conditioner temperatures between 24°C and 26°C. While the government is procuring additional power from external sources and recent rains offer some relief, collective cooperation in energy conservation remains essential to avoid more extensive load shedding.
