In a dramatic police encounter in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, a 32-year-old man named Mehanur, who was accused of sexually assaulting and murdering a seven-year-old boy, was killed during a standoff with the Special Operations Group. The suspect had reportedly kidnapped the child on May 3rd, later murdering him and attempting to stage a ransom demand to mislead investigators. When police tracked him down and attempted an arrest, Mehanur allegedly opened fire, prompting officers to retaliate in self-defense. A senior police officer was also injured in the exchange of fire. Mehanur, a repeat offender with a record of 12 criminal cases across several districts, succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital. The police recovered a pistol, a crude firearm, and a motorcycle from the scene, concluding a high-profile investigation that had offered a reward for his capture.
