n Hindu tradition, lighting a lamp and chanting prayers (Namam) at home is considered essential for attracting positive energy and protecting the household from negative influences, especially during the twilight hours of Sandhya. According to Vastu Shastra and various scriptures, the direction in which one sits while praying holds significant importance for one’s long-term well-being and prosperity. It is highly recommended to face East, the direction of the rising sun and Lord Indra, to enhance intelligence and prosperity, or North, the direction of Lord Kubera, to seek wealth and knowledge. Conversely, one should strictly avoid facing South during daily prayers, as this direction is associated with Lord Yama, the deity of death and destruction, and is traditionally reserved for ancestral rites and funeral ceremonies. Consistently praying toward the South is believed to lead to financial loss, constant family disputes, health issues, and a general decline in the family’s peace and longevity, making it crucial to align oneself correctly to ensure that spiritual practices yield auspicious results rather than unintended negative consequences.
