A devastating road accident in Valparai, Tamil Nadu, resulted in the tragic deaths of nine people, including several teachers from the Pang GLP School in Malappuram. The group was on a summer vacation trip traveling through Malakkappara to Valparai when their traveler van lost control at the 13th hairpin bend and plunged 300 feet down into the 9th hairpin bend. The victims included the school principal, several teachers, a bus driver, and a school cook. The loss has left the small school community in deep mourning, as only three teachers and one staff member now remain of the original faculty.
One of the most heartbreaking aspects of the tragedy is a final video recorded by Asha Teacher just moments before the crash. In the footage, she is seen singing a beautiful Malayalam song, “Pookkal Panineer Pookkal,” capturing a moment of joy that turned into a nightmare seconds later. In a bittersweet twist of fate, Asha Teacher, who usually traveled with her young son Aju, decided to leave him at home for this particular trip. While the community finds small relief that the child was spared, the school and the families are struggling to cope with the immense vacuum left by the sudden loss of so many beloved educators.
