In a tragic series of events in Kerala, two young women were recently murdered by their husbands within a single week, both driven by extreme paranoia and suspicion. In Ponnani, the body of 23-year-old Fathima was discovered on a beach, partially mauled by stray dogs, after she was strangled with a shawl by her husband, Muhammad, during a late-night bike ride. Muhammad was later apprehended by police near a railway track while allegedly attempting to take his own life. Similarly, in Thiruvananthapuram, a woman named Alma was brutally killed with a machete by her husband, Vishwanath, who surrendered to the police shortly after the crime; he cited his wife’s active social media presence and his own long-term suspicions as motives for the attack. Both incidents highlight a disturbing trend of domestic violence fueled by mental health issues and social media-related jealousy, leaving communities in shock as legal proceedings begin for the accused.
