Thiruttu Gramam Exposed: How Kerala Shadow Police Caught Notorious

A specialized unit of the Thiruvananthapuram City Shadow Police successfully dismantled a sophisticated interstate theft ring operating out of Tamil Nadu’s infamous “Thiruttu Gramam” (Village of Thieves). The gang utilized a unique distraction technique, scattering currency notes on the road to divert victims’ attention before swiftly snatching cash and valuables. After a series of high-profile thefts in 2014, including at jewelry stores and private hospitals, the Kerala police tracked the suspects to Ramji Nagar in Trichy. The investigation revealed that these criminals lived double lives as respectable citizens in their hometown, residing in luxurious, CCTV-secured mansions while their children pursued professional degrees in medicine and engineering. Despite local police non-cooperation and tip-offs to the criminals, the Shadow Team employed a clever ruse by pretending to abandon the search, only to launch a midnight raid that led to the capture of the gang leader, Mitramohanan, and his accomplice, Satya. The gang also followed a bizarre ritual of “washing away their sins” in the Kanyakumari sea after successful heists before returning to their village.
