Unnimaya Murder Case

Kerala has been rocked by a series of three tragic spousal murders within a single week, with the latest incident occurring in Thrissur where 33-year-old Unnimaya was strangled to death by her husband, Sivaprasad. The crime took place on a Thursday morning at their residence near the Trithamarassery Temple as Unnimaya was preparing to leave for work; a heated argument, reportedly fueled by the husband’s extreme pathological suspicion, culminated in the fatal assault. Sivaprasad was apprehended by police shortly after while seeking legal advice at an advocate’s office, leaving behind a devastated family including a four-year-old daughter and his own mother. This tragedy follows two similar horrifying incidents in Neyyattinkara and Ponnani, prompting a serious social discussion on the toxic combination of marital suspicion, lack of communication, and potential substance abuse that is increasingly leading to fatal domestic violence in the state.
